Upstate Films - Starr Cinema, Rhinebeck
Known for showing international, indie and documentary films, Upstate Films in Rhinebeck provides its audience with a diverse and eclectic mix. Starr Cinema offers open caption screenings every Thursday which include subtitles and descriptions directly on the screen.
Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum
Having contracted polio at the age of 39, President Roosevelt continued to hold elected positions despite his physical disabilities and became a symbol of leadership, strength and perseverance to the American people. The Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Educational Center and the Museum and Library building has closed-captioning on screens, elevators and resting benches, and an audio description guide with over 13 hours of narration in English and Spanish. Some exhibits are interactive with tactile objects.
Bardavon 1869 Opera House
Bardavon 1869 Opera House is the oldest continuously operating theater in New York. From the Hudson Valley Philharmonic to author David Sedaris, the 944-seat performance space provides accessible seating, sensory-friendly performances and audio loop technology.
The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck
The Center for Performing Arts features an array of amenities that make it accessible and inclusive for all, including sensory-friendly performances, accessible parking and restrooms, and audio assistance.
In 2023, Dutchess Tourism partnered with Wheel the World, an online guide for travelers with disabilities These local attractions, restaurants and shops welcomed a Wheel the World mapper to evaluate each space for accessibility and made recommendations for improvements. We thank these partners for committing to make Dutchess County a more inclusive destination for people of all abilities.
