The Roosevelt’s are such an important piece of Dutchess County history, and the property in Hyde Park is always one we recommend to visitors. One of the reason’s we love their gift shop is because of its size and variety. With everything from FDR items, to history books and postcards, to fun t-shirts and magnets you’re bound to find a few souvenirs worth purchasing!
This historic estate sits tucked off Route 9 in Poughkeepsie on a beautiful nature preserve overlooking the Hudson River. After touring the home, strolling through the Visitors' Center galleries and exploring the historic gardens, the gift shop is a great place to end your visit. The shop is filled with unique hand-crafted items, many of which were made locally.
There’s nothing quite like visiting one of Dutchess County’s gilded-age mansion. The experience truly transports you back in time as you stare in awe of the sheer size and beauty of these homes. The Vanderbilt family certainly lived the high life and left their stamp on our region. The gift shop in the visitor center offers a variety of goods including history books and DVDs, in addition so several beautiful home decor items and others relating to their love of sailing. Such a lovely shop to browse before or after your mansion tour.
Staatsburgh State Historic Site is an incredible place to visit. There’s nothing like stepping inside the Mills Mansion and being blown away by the lavish décor and thought that went into each room. We can only imagine what it would have been like to be one of Mrs. Mills’ guests during that time period. Nowadays the mansion gives public tours, themed tours, hosts special events and children’s programs, and the gift shop touches upon each of these. With plenty of history gifts, jewelry and kids items, it’s a fun place to pick up gifts for loved ones, or yourself!
If you’re an aviation enthusiast, then this destination is for you! With its impressive collection of aircrafts from the Pioneer Era, World War I and Golden Age of Aviation, it truly is a sight to be seen. Their gift shop is a direct reflection of the passion for airplanes and a great place to pick up a few gifts!
There is so much to be said about Eleanor Roosevelt. The historic site is the first to ever be dedicated to a first lady, and we understand why! Val-Kill Cottage is such a special place here in Dutchess County, and one that is a true reflection of Eleanor and her personality. And there’s no better place to bring home a piece of Eleanor, so be sure to spend some time perusing the historic and local products offered in their gift shop.
This contemporary and modern art museum has become such a popular one among Dutchess County visitors. The layout and exhibits invite visitors to interact with the artwork and open up one’s mind. Their gift shop is a wonderful place to learn more about art, with their vast selections of books. Attached to the café, it’s the perfect atmosphere to get lost in creativity.
This eye-catching, 19th century Queen-Anne country house sits along the Hudson River is the charming village of Rhinebeck. Some may not realize that although Dutchess is home to a number of different historic homes, there is a thread that ties many of them together. Wilderstein is definitely one worth a visit to learn more about the Suckley family. Continue your education by purchasing a book from their gift shop, along with other unique items.
You won’t want to miss this interactive children’s museum on your family trip to Dutchess. Their exhibits get kids moving, building, pretending and collaborating. It’s a wonderful hands-on environment that will encourage our child’s creativity! And what kid doesn’t want to bring home a toy from their trip? Be sure to make a pit stop in the gift shop before heading out.
